CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS
CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS
A festival requires a lot of materials, from stages to banners. Our goal is to reuse resources as much as possible. Together with our service providers, partners, and NGOs, we seek resource-efficient solutions in all areas.
Structures, décor modules, and printed materials are designed for use over multiple years. Banners or tarpaulins that can no longer be used—such as those with dated prints or damaged material—do not end up in the trash. Since 2018, we have been working with BagUpa team from Hamburg, who use their design and sewing workshop to turn them into weatherproof bags. At the same time, people with a refugee background or other barriers to employment are given a chance on the job market.
We ask our guests to take their tents, chairs, and other equipment home after the festival. If you would like to leave camping gear that is still fundamentally intact, you have been able to do so since 2016 at Hanseatic Help drop-off points, where the items can be refurbished for use in homeless support programs. Likewise, the Beeke-Löwen, supporters of Kinder- und Jugendhospiz Löwenherz, team collects any leftover camping items on the Monday following the festival. These are cleaned, stored, and distributed the following year for a donation, with the proceeds going to the hospice.
In collaboration with Foodsharing and the local food bank, we collect non-perishable food from guests, catering services, and the festival market to help reduce food waste.
At festivals, many deposit bottles and cans are brought along. We ask you to collect your deposit containers separately so that the materials can stay in the recycling loop. At Hurricane, you can donate your deposits to Hanseatic Help, who use the proceeds to provide sleeping bags and other essential supplies for people experiencing homelessness.
